For those times when you don't want to wear a BJJ gi, you'd want to wear BJJ shorts instead. Whether it's for training strictly no-gi or just for casual rolling, it's a good idea to wear suitable clothing designed for practicing jiu jitsu. You don't want to wear basketball shorts for example, since they can be too loose. You don't want to wear cargo shorts, since they're too thick. And you probably don't want to roll in your boxers. So jiu-jitsu shorts are highly recommended. MMA shorts in general can serve as jiu jitsu shorts. But if you're doing jiu jitsu, it makes more sense to use products designed for jiu jitsu. Also available on the market are shorts made with BJJ gi material. These feel just as comfortable as most gi pants are, but they're shorts instead.
